Lauren Philson Queen of Denial, archival digital print, 28” x 72"
Lauren Philson began her journey with photography in rural, post-industrial Western Pennsylvania and is primarily self-taught. With more than 10 years experience in both digital and film, Philson’s technical prowess is apparent in the precision and control of her compositions: her signature works are fantastical editorial photoillustrations and montages.
She currently lives in New York City, freelances in retouching, photography, and design as the principal of Capella Art, and also has worked with several established photographers, including world-renowned fashion photographer Robert Farber.
Philson holds her MA in Media Arts from Long Island University, and her academic work focuses on semiotic theory.
Venezuelan artist living in New York City since 1995. She has earned degrees from various schools around the world as University of Fine Arts in Poland, National School of Fine Arts of Peru, Cristóbal Rojas School of Visual Arts of Caracas- Venezuela and
The Arts Students League of New York.
Saleme's mixed media artwork is an ongoing investigation of freedom and confinement, communication and misunderstanding, the fragment and the whole, that transcends the boundaries of fashion and taste. Also her work has been included in very important National and International venues such as "Ephemeral Trends II" Arteamericas, Miami 2004, AAF Contemporary Art FAir 2004-05, "Transportable, Berlin-Germany 2003, "Brave Destiny", Williamsburg Art & Historical Center, Brooklyn, NY , “Project Diversity” Kentler International Drawing Space, 2006 Brooklyn, New York, "Salon des Femmes" Galeria Galou (New York) and Galerie R31 (Berlin, Germany) among others.
She is also very active with artist communities such as: L’Atelier Gallery 1996 to 1999 (co-founder), Across The Bridge artists group 2000 to present (co-founder and active member), Galería Galou 2003 to present (co-founder-curator.)
Along side artist career, Saleme created in 2006 a curatorial travel project Threading Trends, a selection of international artists working with textiles or related media. This project has already been exhibited in New York and Berlin
