Elisa Nadzieja: Works on Paper

Brooklyn, NY, July 2005. - Galería Galou is pleased to present a solo exhibition of
works on paper by Elisa Nadzieja, winner of our II Juried Show, held in 2004.

The exhibition opens on Friday, July, 8 with a reception for the artist from 6pm to 9pm,
sponsored by Empanadas del Parque Cafe.

For her first solo show at Galería Galou, Nadzieja presents a selection
of watercolors that reflect her process of improvisation and her freedom
when manipulating the medium.

Nadzieja allows chance and the subconscious to guide her creativity.
For the artist, watercolor is conducive to experimentation, and its fluidity allows for
spontaneous and unexpected results.

Nadzieja chooses not to work with a preconceived idea.
Instead, she allows the improvised results of the initial painting process to guide
the development of the final image.
The artist leaves the works untitled to invite viewer participation and interpretation.
“I want the works to speak their own meaning”, says the artist.

Elisa Nadzieja, born 1962 in New York City, studied
at the Philadelphia College of Art and Hunter College in New York.
She received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in 1987 and
has worked in the field of Microbiology for over 15 years.
She currently lives and works in New York City.
